We have been very busy with the influx of new people and the many tournaments and events that have been going on in the last few months, so here is an update:

Congratulations to Sensei Tom Comerford on his promotion to Yodan from USA Judo. It was extremely well deserved and a long time coming. Way to go! "Thumbs up Sensei Tommy"

Congratulations to Sensei Roger Mazzella on his recent marriage to Nicky! Lots of love from the entire Phoenix family.

The September first Friday had a fantastic showing and we are looking forward to more of the same, this Friday, October 7, 2011. We have already received notice that many people are coming. Make every effort to be one of them!

We will be doing our fall promotions on Sunday, November 13, 2011. Stay tuned for more details.

Phoenix Judo was well-represented at the Ocean States in Coventry, Rhode Island last weekend. In spite of it being a very long day, our fighters gave it their all and did their best! Way to go team!

New Times for Junior Classes

This Saturday, after the adults class, at approximately 1:15pm, we are going to have a meeting of all interested adult members and parents of child members. We want to have an informal meeting about some changes that are forthcoming as well as we would like to open up the floor to any suggestions or ideas about how to make our club even better than it already is. Any and all ideas will be listened and considered. Please try your best to make it and get involved if even for a little bit.

World Masters Judo Championships Aug 18 - 22

Hey Phoenix Judo
Our Sensei Jay competed at the 12th World Masters Judo Championships in Montreal and took a GOLD medal in his division -M3 -60kgs. His fights have been uploaded to our youtube channel www.youtube.com/phoenixjudo1

As well, Tami won a silver in F1-70, silver in the newaza competition and bronze in the F1 open weight division.

Phoenix is proud of all of its members and would like to also congratulate Diana Weisbach on her gold, Istvan Illes on his gold and Patrick Lam on his bronze as well. Well done!

Even though Sensei Jay is over in Europe training and teaching, we are still having our regular classes thanks to Sensei Roger, Sensei Tom, Sensei Mitch and all of the other senseis who signed up to teach the classes in Sensei Jay's absentia. Phoenix Judo Summer Kids' Camp - A Smashing Success!

Our summer Judo camp for the Phoenix kids was fantastic! The kids worked so hard and it really shows in all of their Judo now! They were so good!

Thanks to all of the parents who brought their kids every day and thanks to the guests who came to help out when they could. All of you made this camp so successful!

Our very own Sensei Jay Brooks and Sensei Tom Linnehan both represented Phoenix Judo at the Masters National Championships in Myrtle Beach on May 1, 2010. Sensei Jay took a bronze in the -66 kilo M3 category and Sensei Tom took a silver in the -81 M4 category! Way to go guys! You make Phoenix proud!

We have got quite an opportunity at Phoenix Judo on the weekend of May 15 and 16! We will be honoured to host Aleksei and Dmitry Budolin of Estonia for two days of Judo Clinics. Both of the Budolin brothers compete internationally in Judo, and Aleksei won the bronze medal in the 2000 games in the -81kg category.

Both days we start at noon, with Junior players on Saturday and Senior players on Sunday.

This is an event not to be missed, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from such top-level athletes. Attendance is highly recommended for all Phoenix Judo members.

This coming Friday, April 2, 2010 will be the monthly First Friday at Phoenix Judo. It will also be the launch of our new Friday night classes. Due to an overwhelming interest, Phoenix Judo has added a Friday night class. This will be a fast paced, more competitive-based class. All senior members, 15 years ad older, are welcome to join and juniors are welcome by invitation only. As well, visitors from other clubs are also welcome to join us, but the same rules for junior players applies.

Class starts at 7:30 pm sharp for both seniors and juniors, and will end at 9:00 for juniors and 9:30 for seniors.

Please direct any questions you may have regarding this class to Sensei Jay.
